Pathways to Industry – Super Terrorise Me presents “Bully Planet” Web series.
The Australian Government’s Youth Development and Support Program, which is managed by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations, has provided funding to support a co-production between Open Channel and Mooney Valley Council which has delivered a community based ANTI BULLYING project for Young People aged between 12 and 25. The project is called Super Terrorise Me: Bully Planet the Web Series.
The project is provided young people in Moonee Valley City Council the opportunity to develop and produce an original anti-bullying web series with mentoring from established award-winning screen industry professional Nick Moore. The young group developed skills in writing, directing, producing, cinematography, lighting, sound, set design, performance, music, editing and web compression.
Open Channel and Mooney Valley council production team pulled together a keen group of youths to workshop and write three scripts by December followed by pre-production workshops in February, production in March, Post production in April and the final cuts being finalised ready to upload to the web by the launch to be held at The Niddrie Hub today.
Twenty participants have engaged in story development and scriptwriting workshops, training sessions, pre-production workshops and rehearsals. Most participants have written scripts or engaged in pre-production activities outside the sessions also. All participants have contributed to discussions about the effect of bullying on their lives.
In producing the series, the youths involved wanted to give the viewer a very honest insight into bullying as they see it and how it is perpetuated throughout everyday life. Each episode is unique and represents each young filmmaker’s vision and point of view.
Jennie Hughes, Executive Director of Open Channel commented “We’re delighted to have been involved in such a great initiative with Moonee Valley City Council with the support of the Australian Governments Youth and Support Program. I hope that the films inspire more young filmmakers to tell their story and I look forward to seeing more great work from the young participants in this program in the future”.
Nick Moore, (Facilitator, Trainer and Mentor) said “We have some very committed and hard working young people involved and it’s been great for me personally to be involved in the project”.
