Open Channel and Screen Network are calling for entries from emerging and early career filmmakers and TV content creators for the 2013 Raw Nerve short film production initiative, for the first time delivered in partnership with broadcaster ABC 2.

Raw Nerve provides equipment, mentoring and other support to produce a 5-7 minute short film around the theme “Best Date, Worst Date”, which will be Nationally screened on ABC 2.

The shorts collection is produced through the National Screen Network, which includes Melbourne’s Open Channel, and is funded by Screen Australia.

Applicants must submit a one page concept/synopsis/treatment to be workshopped. Three projects will be selected, and preference will be given to Producer / Writer or Writer / Director teams.

Open Channel’s acting Executive Director, Marc Gracie, who has mentored Raw Nerve filmmakers for the past 4 years said, “Raw Nerve provides one of the few opportunities in Australia for emerging filmmakers to move from no-budget filmmaking to a more professional approach with the help of a small budget, equipment, technical support, advice and guidance from the various Screen Networks. The format for this year’s program reflects upon the current state of the industry – there are many opportunities for practitioners in Australia to find work in television.”

Open Channel is looking forward to supporting the next batch of Raw Nerve filmmakers in the initiative’s first year partnered with the National Broadcaster.

Application forms and further information on the application process are available at http://www.openchannel.org.au/support_rawnerve.html.

Applications close: Wednesday 10th July at 5pm
