The International Film School Sydney (IFSS) in Sydney’s inner city is where students come to craft daring cinema. Since 2005 the school has trained hundreds of directors, screenwriters, producers, editors and other film professionals. Run by experienced and passionate filmmakers, the school aims to transform aspiring filmmakers into fearless cinematic artists with dynamic storytelling skills, technical expertise and a distinctive creative voice.

IFSS believes that to be a successful writer, director, editor, cinematographer or producer you must first be immersed in all these disciplines. In its two year Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media Studies students will screenwrite, direct and produce up to 6 of their own short films and work as a crew member on up to 24 of their classmates films. You learn by doing!

Applications for the February 2013 intake are now open. Students can choose to focus their studies on Screenwriting, Directing and Producing OR Cinematography (new to IFSS in 2013!).

Apply online now. Spaces are limited and filling fast!

Each year IFSS also awards a $48,000 scholarship to the best short film submitted in its annual Future Filmmaker Competition. That’s a full scholarship to the two year Advanced Diploma of Screen and Media up for grabs! To enter, applicants must produce a three-minute film using the theme ‘Experience’ and submit it at the Future Filmmaker Competition page. Entries close Saturday 13 October. For full terms and conditionsvisit the website.

For a taste of what you could be doing at IFSS in 2013, come along to the annual Student Film Screening at the Ritz Cinema in Randwick on Thursday 18 October at 6:00pm. Each year IFSS selects the best student films created at the school and celebrates their excellence by projecting them onto the big screen. It is a FREE event and everyone is welcome. RSVP online today.

IFSS is passionate about teaching people how to make great short films. In 2012 the school’s students and graduates pooled their talents to create the IFSS Uncut TV series that aired on FOXTELS community channel – Aurora. The 4-episode series teaches people how to make short films from start to finish. If you missed out you can watch the episodes online.
