The APDG Awards gathers together a myriad of talents and associated professionals from the Australian film, television, stage and interactive multimedia industries to celebrate the art of visually captivating audiences the world over.
The inaugural event, held only last year, was a huge success, enhanced by the gracious presence of Australian film icon, Margaret Pomeranz. This year Oscar winning animator, Adam Elliot, will MC the evening.
The Awards not only recognise great design, they showcases and promote Australian designers to the world. This year the guild has redesigned the way entries are received to make it easier for all designers to acquire permission to have their work entered. Entrants are invited to include concept art and documentation of the design process to support their entry and each of 17 categories this year has a separate entry form. Designers involved in works staged, distributed, broadcast, published or assessed by a school in the Australian financial year 1st July 2011- 30th June 2012 are advised to take a look at the entry package requirements now as it takes time to prepare an entry and the June 30th deadline can’t be extended.

Also new this year the prestigious Cameron Crewswell APDG Award for Outstanding Contribution to Design has been opened up and nominations are being accepted worldwide. Anyone, anywhere can nominate a person or persons who have made a significant contribution to Australian Stage and Screen design. This list of nominees will be voted upon by the APDG steering committee and the winner announced at the APDG Awards ceremony to be held, this year, in the magnificent Dolton House, Darling Island Walf, Sydney, in October.
A student award for design and an award for interactive design have been addd to the list of categories this year. The interactive design award is a broad category for game designs, installations, web designs, app designs, advertising and publishing ventures that have a screen design aspect.
Also new this year, there are two awards for costume design, one for stage, one for screen, also art directors are able to be nominated by production designers to receive an award in the feature film, short film, advertisement, TV production and TV drama categories, plus, lead designers are able to nominate other designers in the interactive design award. Also worth noting is that the art directors and other designers nominated by production designers and lead designers need not be APDG members to receive an award.
