The world’s largest short-film festival has announced a partnership with SBS in 2013, allowing millions of Australians to watch the much-anticipated event. Tropfest, a long-standing institution in Australian independent film, returns this year with a promising lineup of local and international artists.

Sixteen finalists will screen films on Sunday 17 February at the Domain in Sydney. Tropfest organisers are excited by the diversity of this year’s entries. Film locations include a disused mental asylum (in Matt Cerwen’s Inside), the Mexican desert (in Michael Noonan’s Remote) and a 19th-century gothic mansion (in Katie Wall’s Scene 16). Of the sixteen short-listed films, thirteen are Australian-made. Tropfest will show three international entries, from Canada, LA and Mexico.
