At the Hong Kong Film Market this year, The Wandering Earth was a constant reference point. Even though Chinese and Hong Kong filmmakers have been making high-energy FX films since the dawn of computer graphics, the scale and artistic consistency of The Wandering Earth surprised the local industry. Seven thousand people worked on the production, the CGI was co-ordinated through the producer’s company, and only a quarter of the effects work was sent outside China.
