The days of the Sky City Cinemas brand are numbered, according to new owners Amalgamated Holdings (AHL), who expect to complete rebranding to Event Cinemas of all North Island venues soon. Rialto, now jointly owned by AHL and Reading Cinemas, will keep its current branding.
Other than the changing the name, Event Cinemas plans three major areas of development to the exhibition businesses. Over the next three years, the cinemas will move to all digital projection; at least one screen will be 3D-capable in all venues within 12 months; and a new class of cinema, V-Max, will be introduced.
