As part of wider ranging series of reforms to government agencies announced on the weekend, China’s State Administration for Radio Film & Television (SARFT) will become one with the country’s other major media regulator, the General Administration of Press and Publications (GAPP).

The overall plan behind the reshuffle is an attempt to reduce bureaucracy. That reduction doesn’t extend to China’s rather literal sense of naming conventions, however, so the new body will be known as the State Administration of Press Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT) – unless someone can come up with a catchier title.
