On Saturday, for the first time since 1972, one could go to a cinema in Bangladesh and see an Indian film. The lifting of the government ban on Bollywood lasted only until Monday when the Prime Minister stepped in to reintroduce it, following vociferous protests from the Bangladeshi filmmaking community.

Bangladeshis can see Indian films on TV and on DVD, legally or otherwise, but the 1972 ban barred Indian films from cinemas in order to protect the local production industry.
