The old joke is that the initials SBS stand for Sex Before Soccer. SBS-owned pay television channel World Movies has spent the last two years proving that you don’t need the soccer, and last night announced that it would take the formula even further, screening six nights of banned films in July.
Speaking before a dinner event for World Movies and its sister arts channel, STVDIO, SBS’ general manager for subscription television, Chris Keely, said that in 2012 the “Adult” program had helped propel the channel to 60% year-on-year growth and had, in his opinion, allowed a niche channel to cross over to mainstream success.
