Wendall Thomas is returning to the Melbourne International Film Festival for the fourth time, offering further insights into different aspects of screenwriting. She’ll be presenting a series of four day-long lectures, with subjects including buddy films, mentors and tricksters, multi-protagonist structures and the vital first act. She tries to give practical rather than theoretical advice, and plans to make use of many clips to illustrate her points.

The Road to Bromance session focuses on buddy films, an ever popular genre with many facets. The session includes everything from Butch Cassidy to Abbott and Costello through to The Rover and 22 Jump Street. She believes that the concept of buddies reaches beyond the buddy films, citing films such as The King’s Speech, The Grand Budapest Hotel or Moneyball where the same construction occurs.
