Not including the cast and the NZSO, over 300 names appear on the credits for Under the Mountain, which gives you an idea of the scale of the production. It’s not a Hollywood-scale credit list, but it’s long on the quality, breadth and depth of NZ filmmaking.
Nonetheless, despite the scale of the production by local terms, some international reviewers seemed to take the film to task for the perennial problem of local filmmaking almost anywhere outside of Hollywood: the size of the budget and the limitations that imposes on production values.
