Every year Toronto graciously surrenders its city centre to the international film industry and cine-files alike, for the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, (TIFF). Roads are closed to facilitate foot-traffic and impressive queues of festivalgoers wrap neatly around office blocks where ticket holders wait patiently to get good seats, often sharing umbrellas with the more ill prepared. This year is special for TIFF, being their 40th anniversary and also special for Australia, with a standout number of selections. Australia has ten feature films and two shorts that span the various TIFF categories including the world premiere of The Dressmaker, at a Gala Presentation last Monday. It was a red carpet, celebrity studded affair.
