Sydney Film Festival plots a Winter’s Sleep in Timbuktu

Behind the SFF cluster of five extra films from the Cannes Film Festival was a set of deals made with three hours to spare.

The five special screenings of films from Cannes were announced at 9am on Monday morning, and the last touches to the package were signed off at 6am. “It was a calculated risk,” said director Nashen Moodley on the phone, “and it didn’t allow us a lot of leeway, but in the end it worked perfectly – this time.”
