St Kilda Film Festival Best Achievement in Indigenous Filmmaking – Aboriginal Heart, from Michelle Blanchard and Tim Duncan.
The St Kilda Film Festival begins in glam and ends with sponsored pizzas and beer tickets in the local town hall. This year comedian Lawrence Mooney decided to be pretty serious, so we wasted little time on quips or even teary speeches.
We were probably lucky that the winner of the Best Actor award was not present to receive his prize because hard-bitten short filmmakers would have become sentimental. Ed Oxenbould won for The Amber Amulet. He is about twelve years old, and first claimed attention in the short film Julian, from Matthew Moore, which won the Berlin Crystal Bear in 2012 for Generation Kplus. It took both the Audience and Special Jury awards at Flickerfest, and won the AACTA for Best Short in 2013.
