The annual Screen Producers Association Awards occur deep inside the guts of the Melbourne Casino. Resisting the obvious joke, it did entail a strange journey into many subcultures of aimless, torpid despair as I pursued the Palladium Room through a maze of plastic shops and winking slot machines.
