As always the musicians delivered one of the niftiest awards nights on the calendar, but with an unusual interruption. Antony Partos’s speech was almost a showstopper in its own right.

Sometimes, not even the best screen composers can say everything they have to say with music alone. At the 2013 Screen Music Awards held last night at Sydney’s State Theatre, Antony Partos, accepting his second award of the night, together with David McCormack, for Redfern Now, found the courage to speak his mind about the state of Australia.
