Writers are drawn to particular fact-based topics for a variety of reasons, and one of these reasons is timeliness. Horchner believes that stories have their moments, when they explore something about contemporary culture.

Natalie Chaidez, EP/Showrunner at Matchbox UCP, agreed that the timeliness of stories is important. She gave the example of Anzac Girls commemorating the start of WWI. In the final episode, the real people the characters were based on are shown on screen. When the audience realises the reality of the story, their emotional involvement becomes even deeper.
