Screen Australia today announced financing for six television drama series, including Matchbox Pictures’ Return to the Devil’s Playground, a sequel of sorts to Fred Schepsi’s 1976 feature film of the same name, with Penny (Brides of Christ) Chapman on board as executive producer.

The 6 x 47 series, which is being made for FOXTEL, moves the coming-of-age-in-a-seminary story forward from the 1960s to 1988, with the 13-year-old Tom Allen of the movie “now a psychiatrist, [who] becomes a secular confessor to the Catholic clergy, and is soon embroiled in political and theological intrigue.”
