After all the analysis, anticipation and re-examination of the Australian take on shlock, Patrick had its world premiere in the appropriately tired and seedy Greater Union complex in which the original film once played. Julie Marlow, not the film’s demographic, was enchanted.
Antony I.Ginnane, redoubtable producer of note, has often spoken about Australian filmmakers’ reluctance to engage in remakes and sequels, given the rich source material available to us. But then he made most of the applicable films in the remake-able category to start with, and one of the best is Patrick (1978), directed by our own Aussie genremeister, the late Richard Franklin, from a script by the still living genremeister, Everett de Roche.
