Producer Lloyd Phillips died in Los Angeles last weekend, following a heart attack. Known mostly for his US productions, he maintained a strong connection with New Zealand, and is entwined with its cinematic history.
Born in South Africa, he grew up in New Zealand, and became the country’s first Oscar winner in 1981 when Roger Christian’s The Dollar Bottom took the Academy gong for live action short.
