Canopy, a self-funded and crowd-funded co-production feature, broke through at the Toronto Film Festival and has received excellent reviews. It’s soon to release in the US, UK, Canada and Australia, so what’s the real story behind the film?

Katrina met writer/director Aaron Wilson though a mutual friend, and although they came from very different backgrounds (Katrina was a theatre producer and Aaron was an engineer), they decided to team up to make films. They started making commercials together, with the ultimate aim of making a feature film. They thought that the process of making the feature might take two years, and that someone would give them money to make it, “but of course it doesn’t work that way,” Katrina said.
