The Chickabees is “about a bunch of girls who set out to become famous by setting up a dance troupe, but along the way they realise that friendship’s more important.”
Producer and director John McGlynn explained that while working on the television show Pugwall, he met writer Margaret Clarke. Margaret lives near Geelong, in the same area where John now lives. She pitched the project to him and he was thoroughly inspired by it. He was keen to find something which would appeal to the same market as The Saddle Club and this fitted the bill perfectly. He optioned the project and has spent the last couple of years trying to find investors for the project.
