Fresh off his triumph at TIFF, the star-writer of Felony is moving onto American shores to make his next feature, Weirdo in 2014, marking his debut as a director.

Joel Edgerton’s biggest hits and artistic contributions were made in his homeland (never mind the role in the Star Wars saga that perhaps did the most to popularize his face and looks), so it’s interesting to see an Australia star – who now headlines big American movies – making the decision that his directorial future should be grounded in the U.S. as well. But that’s not altogether odd, for Felony feels like a well-made American thriller.
