Twentysomething‘s Jess Harris makes it all seem so easy, until you stop and think about the hard graft of turning a grand adventure into a zillion reliable jokes.

Blood, swords, spies and adultery – there’s only so much ‘quality television drama’ a person can take before they crave some light relief. If you’re Jess Harris, co-creator, writer, producer and star of ABC2’s acclaimed comedy series Twentysomething, then you can’t take very much of that deep dark drama at all. “I love lightness and I’m really sensitive to negative stuff,” Harris said on the phone from the HighWire production offices in Melbourne where she writes and edits the show.
