Industry Growth: figures prove growth real but not enough

ABS figures released live today after a five year absence reveal the ghastly truth. Employment and total budgets are all up - but the amount is actually not enough.

The headline figures for the Australian Bureau of Census and Statistics report on the Australian screen sector released yesterday contain some reasonable news and one set of horrible numbers.

Five years ago, the ABS stopped collecting these figures and they are now only gathered on commission by Screen Australia, which pays for them. So this is the first time since 2006-7 that we have been able to really analyse the performance of the whole sector.
