Figures presented to the Independent Cinemas Association of Australia annual conference have revealed that the cinemas’ best customers are also the biggest download pirates, with piracy having only a 1% impact on ticket sales.

Gail Grant of the Intellectual Property Awareness Foundation (IPAF) presented the results of a Newspoll conducted in March this year of 1,600 Australian adults, that revealed that 48% of Australians had pirated film or television, and that 31% were regular and active pirates.
