He found his experience on Saving Mr Banks to be “a wonderful learning curve,” as all of his productions up until that time had been in television drama and television documentary. The film was Ian Collie’s first feature film, and “to use an American expression, I think I hit the ball out of the ballpark getting a studio picture up straight away!”

His trajectory was a “less orthodox way of getting into feature films, but fortunately this picture attracted the interest of Disney.” The film was about the origins of the popular Disney film, Mary Poppins.
