STUDIOCANAL is now the proud owner of Hoyts Distribution, down to the labels on the few remaining film cans.

According to one senior industry pundit who declines to be named, “It must be better for Hoyts to be run by a group of French film enthusiasts rather than a bunch of venture capitalists from Perth.”

The news was announced today in Paris. STUDIOCANAL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the French CANAL+ Group. It is a major international distribution player, particularly in Europe, with its own substantial catalogue, and also invests in productions, often through co-production deals.
