The Shark island Institute and the Documentary Australia Foundation has picked up on an international funding system that pumped $11.5m into 128 films around the world since 2009, and expects to support seven local projects each year.

Malinda Wink, who is responsible for the program via the DAF and the Shark island Institute, said “We are very specific about focusing on high impact social issue documentaries. In part we want to celebrate the feature length documentary as a form – it is a fantastic length to explore social issues in reasonable depth.”
