Budget: shocked industry faces cuts to key agency

No fun for the national broadcasters, but horrible for Screen Australia. And hard times for games developers too.

Screen Australia is about to lose $10.3m or 10% of its total appropriation. Given how hard Scroz drives its money, and how tight its staff is, that means a serious drop in available program funds. Gee, thanks Mr Government.

Lest we feel singled out, the Australia Council is taking a hit as well. $8m goes, but that is only 4% of its total budget of $216.7m for next year. Arts funded directly by the Attorney-General’s Department has been cut by $4.4m as well.
