Four films selected last year, seven for 2013 – we can’t read much into this but the result is surely reassuring.

Clermont-Ferrand is certainly the premier short film festival, in which a French town becomes obsessed with short films, and the specialised buyers descend in droves. It may not exactly be Cannes, but short filmmakers know they are among friends.
