Box Office Bizarro: 17 August with an evil moment in The Gift

Joel Edgerton's The Gift does well on wide release in the US. It also scored a truly strange and ugly assault from a leaf blower.

First the evil moment. Remember that James Holmes killed twelve people in a screening of The Dark Knight Rises three years ago and is still being tried. In July, John Russell Houser opened fire on an audience for The Trainwreck in Louisiana and shot eleven people. Two died and he killed himself. On August 5th, Vincente David Montana attacked Nashville patrons â€‹watching Mad Max: Fury Road with a hatchet and pepper spray. He defended himself against the police with a toy gun and was shot dead in the street. â€‹
