Box Office 5 September – fear zombies, delight kids, mock failing tentpoles

In a dead time for local films (see them at the AFI) Girl Asleep is about to hit the screens, while Down Under has been pushed into a shallow grave. It will be back for Xmas.

Down Under has gone. No mercy was shown. It made $153,113.

Girl Asleep has made $32,000 off two screens at $6000/per in its PR plus festival run. Comes out on September 8. We are hoping it does well for Umbrella, which never quite gives up on its exhibition addiction. The film will arrive on 28 screens, which is 16 up on original intentions, fuelled probably by its success at Cinefest Oz. It is very possible the prize money has gone into the advertising budget.
