The Daughter, Sherpa, sheep and a provocative horror film give arthouse audiences everything but laughter.

There’s a lot to learn from a good horror film. Image: The Witch poster.

The Daughter has now been out for a month, is on 53 cinemas at a bit under $2000/screen. It has taken $1,411,579. I understand that this, with a disciplined advertising budget from Village Roadshow, means the film will ultimately do enough in overseas sales and VOD and etc to make a profit.  That is pretty good for a tough film with a first time(ish) director, and has a lot to do with star power on the poster and the glow of its younger cast.
