Andrew Bovell, Anthony LaPaglia and the grift behind greatness

With actor Anthony LaPaglia and Andrew Bovell in town at the same time, the Adelaide Film Festival arranged a conversation between them which ranged across loneliness, children, artistic co-operation and a suitcase full of ideas.

Born in Adelaide, Anthony LaPaglia is a fine actor who has worked on a string of excellent films both in Hollywood and Australia. His range covers Lantana, Mental, Balibo and A Month of Sundays.

Andrew Bovell is a key writer in both theatre and film, known for plays like When The Rain stops Falling, Speaking in Tongues, and The Secret River. His features include Head On, Lantana, Blessed, Edge of Darkness and A Most Wanted Man. He grew up in Western Australia and ultimately settled outside Adelaide. Both have had their share of artistic satisfaction and painful experiences, and are known for their meticulous craft and passion for excellence.
