According to David Doepel of Leap Frog Films/Tugg Australia in a session called ‘Docos Dream of Choc Tops: Or how cinema on demand delivers for documentaries’, there’s an issue with the theatrical release of films these days – too many films and not enough cinemas.

Filmmakers’ holy grail is a cinema release, but it’s hard to achieve, both for documentary and drama. And competition is tough, so if your film isn’t performing after a week, you’re dead.
