As budgets shrink but ambitions grow, production accountants have moved from in-house services to consultants. Now one key company has produced a digital accounting package to help producers do a lot of the work themselves.

For the first thirty years of its life, Moneypenny provided accountancy services on feature films, in direct competition to freelancers. Typically, Moneypenny staff sat in the production office along with everyone else. ‘I had thirty people on my books,’ said Jane Corden, who is the managing director of Moneypenny.
