Three years down the track, with the ABC exuberantly running a micro-branding campaign using indy local acts which tell the awful truth about ABC2’s image, controller Stuart Menzies reflects on progress.

Menzies was not an obvious choice to run ABC2. He was the first controller, and had no experience at that role. He was a documentary tragic, known to vibrate with frustration as producers were stiffed on international deals. But then, the fragmenting television audience, the second screen explosion and the controller system itself was unknown territory for the whole corporation.
