The government’s position on the ABC is now a big, fat mess which makes the efficiency study a bit alarming. What will it look at? Who will do it? Where did the wording come from? Why does it fail to mention the independent sector?
Yesterday, on January 30th, Malcolm Turnbull announced an efficiency study into the ABC and SBS. In an interview with SBS, he said, “the objective is to get a really good assessment of the cost-effectiveness of both of our public broadcasters, the ABC and SBS, and to look at what would be the most efficient ways, in terms of cost-effectiveness of delivering their programming” and then “There’s potential for savings, obviously, but there’s also the potential for the broadcasters to better allocate the funds they’ve got so that they can do more, so they can get more bang with the same buck.”
