Fitzroy’s own short film festival celebrates a fantastic year of short films with THE FITZ Best Short Film Awards ‘06 to be held on Saturday December 2nd at The Spanish Club in Fitzroy. Awards are to be presented by the one and only Brigadier Rex Pipes who will be the host for the evening. Ten of the best films from the Fitzroy Shorts screening calendar 2006 will screen on the night and will be followed by an awards ceremony.
Headlining the awards is acclaimed MIFF darling, Royston Tan’s whose debut feature was so brutally decimated by the Singapore censors that he fought back witha gleeful anti-censorship protest short musical entitled CUT, which is currently banned in Singapore. The chorus line of the film is a Who’s Who of the city-state&rs quo;s last remaining freethinkers. Winner of the prestigious Canal+ Award at the 2005 Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival, Fitzroy Shorts is proud to screen it as one of the nominated short films in this, the third year running of THE FITZ Best Short Film Awards.
