Christina Alvarez comes into the role with 25 years of extensive senior leadership experience in the screen industry having previously been the CEO of Metro Screen, General Manager of FBi Radio and Deputy GM of the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia.
Christina was AFTRS Engagement Manager from July 2016 and, more recently, has been Acting Director of Partnerships & Development. During this time she has successfully managed Talent Camp that is now in its second iteration and launched Media Lab, an online screen and broadcast resource for primary and secondary students.
The position is responsible for skills development programs that cover industry training, corporate, outreach and schools.
“Christina was an exceptional candidate for this role. She has an incredible track record both here at AFTRS and for her earlier leadership work in the sector,” said AFTRS CEO Neil Peplow.
Christina has also taught Media Studies at Sydney based universities and holds a Masters in Public Broadcasting Management. She has held board positions with Sydney Film Festival, Audiocraft and Television Sydney.
