Virtual Reality Video Director

Start Beyond (www.startbeyond.co) is an industry-leading immersive content studio based in Sydney, specialising in virtual reality video projects for training, education, and cultural spaces. We pride ourselves on creating interactive, narrative driven training and educational experiences with a filmic approach.

With an exciting 2025 ahead, we are looking for an experienced video director to join our VR video production team in 2025.

Depending on the candidate, this is a mid or senior role aimed at someone with 5+ years professional experience creating video content for corporate clients. Primary skills must include writing and directing, though the ideal candidate is a technically minded video production all rounder capable of getting hands-on with most elements of production and is very comfortable working directly with clients on a brief.

Whilst familiarity with virtual reality is considered an advantage, it is not essential.

Overview:

Working under the supervision of the Head of Studio, your day to day tasks will involve:

• Concepting and crafting training and educational immersive video experiences
• Writing outlines and scripts
• Working directly with clients to achieve desired outcomes
• Directing actors and presenters on set
• Working with producers and crew on film industry style productions
• Overseeing productions through post production
• Creating video marketing materials (promos, case studies)

Additional tasks where skills are applicable:

• Editing and post-production
• Camera operation
• Producing and project management

Additional skills that will be considered favourably:

• Learning design, experience design and / or creating content for e-learning
• Familiarity directing computer graphics, VFX and animated productions
• Experience with 360 degree video or other non-traditional screen formats
• Understanding of app design concepts like UI and UX

This is a unique role which requires both a technical and creative mind.  Ideal candidates will have an excellent affinity with technology and the ability to quickly understand VR production techniques. Equally they will have the creative abilities to write and direct realistic and emotional narratives.

Terms of engagement are negotiable and flexible, though we are looking for candidates who are interested in long term career growth opportunities rather than short term contracts.
