Reporting to the Director of Narrative Content, the Head of Production will lead the Investment Manager team for Narrative Content.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Narrative Content, the Head of Production will lead the Investment Manager team for Narrative Content Production Investment, leading projects’ funding, assessment, and slate management across feature films, television (including children’s content), and online platforms. This role is integral to collaborating on funding strategies, ensuring successful project delivery, and maintaining strong relationships with industry stakeholders. Based in either Melbourne or Sydney, this full-time, two-year contract offers a unique opportunity to drive the success of Australian screen content. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading and managing the Investment Manager team to deliver a high-performing and effective unit.
  • Overseeing the assessment and funding process for Narrative Content Investment and related programs.
  • Managing funding applications and investment strategies and ensuring successful project delivery.
  • Interdepartmental collaboration to provide guidance on deal structures, budgets, and financial strategies.
  • Representing Screen Australia in investment meetings, industry events (domestic and international), and funding recommendation discussions.
  • Building strong and credible relationships with production companies, distributors, sales agents, platforms, and industry bodies.

 

About you

You are an experienced screen industry professional with a strong track record across development, production, financing, directing, distribution, or writing and you possess:

  • A deep understanding of the Australian and international screen landscape, including key industry players and market trends.
  • Exceptional creative judgment, with the ability to evaluate ideas, scripts, and production outcomes.
  • Strong financial acumen, including experience with production budgets, recoupment structures, and monetisation strategies.
  • A strategic mindset, with the ability to balance creative vision with commercial viability.
  • Excellent leadership skills, with the ability to guide and develop a high-performing team.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
  • A proactive and solutions-focused approach to problem-solving.
