The role of a great casting agent often goes unacknowledged, but not tonight, with winners announced for the 2024 Casting Guild of Australia (CGA) Awards. Winners included Nathan Lloyd taking out the award for ‘Best Casting in a Feature Film’ for his work on the family-friendly Stan Original Windcatcher starring Jessica Mauboy and a cast of Indigenous and First Nations kids.
Established in 2013, the Casting Guild of Australia celebrated its 10th annual CGA Awards tonight (Friday 15 November) at a ceremony in Sydney at the Establishment Hotel . This year’s event was hosted by Connor and Christiaan Van Vurren with a special guest producer Sally Riley.
The CGA Awards is the only casting awards ceremony in the southern hemisphere that celebrates and recognises casting across all mediums including film, television, advertising, theatre and online content. The annual ceremony seeks to acknowledge the critical role casting directors play.
For the second year in a row, Kirsty McGregor and Stevie Ray won ‘Best Casting in a TV Comedy’ for their work on Colin From Accounts, this year for season 2. Amanda Mitchell took home the award for ‘Best Casting in a TV Drama’ for Erotic Stories (Episodes 2-7).
For ‘Best Casting in a Telemovie/Miniseries, Nikki Barrett took out the top prize for her work on Netflix’s acclaimed Boy Swallows Universe while Rhys Velasquez won ‘Best Casting in a Short Film’ for Black Trans Miracle.
