Box Office 19 September 2016 – Spin Out and Girl Asleep fly local flag

Sony bets this kind of Australiana will work in the multiplexes. Image: still of Morgan Griffin and Xavier Samuel with added flags.

Spin Out, the genial ute film from Tim Ferguson and Marc Gracie, has been launched on 184 screens by Sony.

The understaffed ABC said it had too many characters and gave it B-, The Australian went for ‘cliched, the story predictable and the jokes, for me at least, not funny’, while the Sydney Morning Herald thinks it is all a bit squeaky clean and ‘crass on just about every level, but heartfelt in its desire to please’. It had a launch but nobody from the media got really excited.
