Girl Asleep takes uncertain steps into its place in history, at the very least as an inventive picture that challenges a few norms.

Girl Asleep woke up in a dark space near you and discovered people who had paid to be there. There were 26 screens, and a take of $88,211. That boils down to $1774/screen. Can’t see distributor Umbrella being thrilled, but it will a hard, long journey with this film as it needs a teen girl audience. For filmmakers it is a very interesting film to discuss. What to do with magic realism?
