Student sews up cinematic heritage

Everything in moving picture media is an illusion which only works because of a physiological effect called persistence of vision. Each frame or field of film or video is a still image, which decays away in the reactions on the back of the retina until it replaced by the next image. It seems smooth, but it really isn’t.
