The sale of the Lindfield home of the former Film Australia will probably net much more than $50m. The government decides what to do with it, and will surely be tempted to carry it straight to Treasury.
But, Lindfield and Film Australia were important resources for the documentary community. FA was also one of the few places which government funded directly to support our exploration of ourselves as a nation. It now turns out that the various National programs counterbalanced the broadcasters and their obsession with the narrow interests of prime time audiences.
