Screen Australia’s latest investment decisions under the $20m games initiative will be its last, since the program was cancelled by the Abbott government in the 2014 budget.
The agency has thanked its industry consultants, pointed out that all of the $10m so far available was disbursed to applicants, and signing off with the cheery comment that “With the vast majority of funded titles still in production, gamers should look forward to a steady stream of fun, high-quality Australian game releases over the next few years”. As a government body, it is being a model of discretion.
